Representation

The main purpose of the Students' Union is that we are here to represent the students of Queen Margaret University and we do this is a variety of ways.

The Executive Committee are elected representatives of the    student body, who work towards making sure that the student voice is heard throughout the University by the range of Committees which Officers and most notably, the Student President sit on.

Student Parliament (SP) is the governing body of the Students'  Union and is where the Executive Officers are held accountable for the work that they do. It is where students can mandate the Executive to campaign on certain issues or prioritise their plans for the year. SP is made up of elected students who are known as Members of Student Parliament (MSP) who represent the students of QM in various fields; academic representation, halls of residence representation and so on.

Student Parliament discusses and decides action on the wider issues that effect all students at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Meetings take place 5/6 times a year and MSPs are able to put forward items for agenda and are encouraged to form links with their constituents to discover the issues that should be discussed. Ongoing issues and personal issues for any student should be brought to the attention of the Student President as soon as they occur, so that these issues can be dealt with swiftly.

MSPs are encouraged to remain in constant contact with the Students’ Union on representational issues.

Queen Margaret University Students' Union also affiliates to the    National Union of Students (NUS) who represent students on a       nationwide level. They support Students' Unions through access to resources and campaign materials, training and networking            opportunities. QMU Students' Union also takes delegates to NUS conferences and votes on issues which affect students nationally.
