Volunteer Appreciation Awards

On Thursday 1st May The Students' Union held their first Volunteer Appreciation Awards in the SU Bar. The event was held to celebrate and recognise those students who volunteer in the Students' Union RAW Centre, RAG volunteers, Student Parliament MSPs, students involved in campaigns and the student newspaper. The event was well attended by students and staff at the University, who enjoyed a wine reception, buffet lunch and the ceremony itself.

The new annual awards for Volunteer of the Year and Outstanding Contribution to the Students' Union were the highlight of the afternoon.

Alasdair Corbett recieved the Volunteer of the Year Award, for his commitment to being Secretary of the LGBT Society, Co-Chair of the Student Parliament, actively involved in campaigns, representation and for leading a campaign to London to defend the Human Rights of Mehdi Kazmi.

BernadetteMary Chalmers recieved the Outstanding Contribution to the Students' Union, for her total commitment to the SU for the past 4 years. She has worked in the bar since first year, co-founded the Netball team and founded the Angels and Devils Cheerleading Squad, she has been the editor of the student newspaper, an active MSP for three years and this year she was Chair of Student Parliament.

Congratulations to all the students who received awards! We hope next year's ceromony can build on this excellent event.
